Buddhavanam project Special Officer Mallepalli Laxmaiah welcomes the Buddha Dhamma Padayatra in Madhigi village of Medak district on Tuesday. | Photo Credit: By Arrangement The third Buddha Dhamma Padayatra, which began in Kalaburagi of Karnataka on February 2, entered Telangana on Tuesday after reaching Madhigi village of Medak district. Undertaken by hundreds of Buddhist monks and devotees, the yatra aims to spread Lord Buddha’s message of peace, compassion and non-violence across communities. Buddhavanam project Special Officer Mallepalli Laxmaiah welcomed the yatra, while actor and Buddhist activist Gagan Malik, along with social activists P.S.N. Murthy, Siddoji Rao, K.K. Raja and Buddhavanam manager Shyamsunder, joined it in Madhigi village expressing solidarity with the spiritual journey. Organisers said the yatra seeks to promote harmony and raise awareness of Buddha’s philosophy in the villages and towns along its route. The yatra will proceed through Buchchinelli, Ekkeli, Lingampalli, Sadasivapet, Sangareddy, Isnapur, BHEL and Kukatpally, spreading messages of compassion, equality and non-violence. The monks will also visit the Buddha statue at Hussain Sagar before reaching Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara at Mahindra Hills in Secunderabad on February 18, where they will halt for a day. The march will culminate at Buddhavanam, Nagarjuna Sagar, on March 1. The monks will visit the Nagarjunakonda Museum on March 2 and offer special prayers at Buddhavanam on March 3, seeking peace and well-being for the world.
