The police are seeking to identify the woman whose body was found in a mutilated condition, near Periyasadayampalayam along the Erode Ring Road, on Tuesday (February 10, 2026).

According to the police, a milk vendor passing through the area noticed the body and alerted the Erode Taluk police. The head had been smashed with a stone, and the clothes were found discarded near the body.

Police personnel retrieved the body and began an investigation. The victim is believed to be around 30 years old. A red churidar was found near the body, along with a stone suspected to have been used in the crime, which was seized for examination.

Police officials said they are probing the possibility of a sexual assault on the victim. There were forensic signs indicating that the murder might have occurred a day before the body was discovered, they added. Cigarette butts were also picked up from the spot.

Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha, along with Town Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Muthukumaran, inspected the spot. A sniffer dog squad and forensic experts were deployed to collect evidence. The body was sent to the Government Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered by the Erode Taluk police. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and the police are checking with nearby stations to ascertain whether any complaints regarding missing women have been filed.
