The police have arrested a textile showroom employee for allegedly stealing expensive silk sarees from the shop, located in T. Nagar.

According to the police, Sudhan, 38, a resident of Choolaimedu and the manager of the textile shop on Venkatanarayana Road, T. Nagar, noticed that silk sarees had frequently been going missing from the showroom.

On the afternoon of February 8, he caught an employee, Suresh, attempting to leave the shop with a silk saree. On questioning him, it was found that Suresh had previously stolen more than 10 silk sarees from the shop. Sudhan then handed him over to the Crime Wing of the Mambalam police station and lodged a complaint.

The police said that during interrogation, Suresh, 28, a resident of Vinayagapuram, Saidapet, confessed to stealing over 10 silk sarees worth around ₹4 lakh. He also admitted to selling the stolen sarees by contacting customers of the shop using their mobile phone numbers.

Suresh was arrested on February 8. Two silk sarees valued at ₹10,000 each were recovered from him, and one mobile phone was seized. The accused was later produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
