Growing concerns over the looming water crisis were highlighted at the Bengaluru Water Expo – 2026, organised by Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University on February 9.

Speaking at the WEEHtec – 2026 technical exhibition and conference on water, energy, environment and health, Vice-Chancellor Professsor Ramesh B. warned that Bengaluru is approaching a critical threshold due to unsustainable water practices. He stressed that water forms the foundation of life and livelihoods, and its continued neglect has pushed the city into a ‘dangerous situation’.

Former AICTE chairperson Prof. T. G. Seetharam highlighted that water security is as vital as food security, advocating large-scale rainwater harvesting and systematic wastewater reuse to safeguard future needs.

Technical Chairperson Dr. A. Narayanaswamy linked climate change, resource misuse and pollution to rising public‑health risks, calling them global concerns requiring urgent attention.

The conference concluded with a call for collaborative, long-term, sustainable water‑management solutions to secure the future of Bengaluru.
