The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered that the operation of traffic signals and cameras, which were earlier under Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), be immediately transferred to the Kochi Corporation. SHRC Chairperson Alexander Thomas issued instructions in this regard to the Principal Secretary and Principal Director of the Local Self-Government department (LSGD). The Commission recommended that the Corporation fix the malfunctioning traffic signals, including those at Kadavanthra and Vyttila, on a war footing, with the help of Keltron. It said the LSGD Principal Secretary should issue necessary instructions to the Corporation secretary. A report on steps taken to repair traffic signals must be submitted at the office of the Commission before its sitting on March 3 at the Pathadipalam PWD Rest House. The Commission issued the order in a suo moto case, registered by it based on a newspaper report that the traffic light at Vyttila Junction had not been functional.
