The Tumakuru district police rescued a minor boy who was allegedly kidnapped during the Magodu Jatre in Sira taluk and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Mustigarahalli village in Sira taluk, stated that the boy had gone to the Magodu Jatre on January 30. The boy, however, went missing on February 1 around 7 p.m. Despite search, the family could not trace him and later approached the Sira police.

Investigations revealed that the prime accused, Narasaiah, 35, a daily-wage labourer from Medigeshi village, allegedly planned the kidnapping to help his cousin, Shanthamery, 40, who has two daughters and allegedly wanted a male child.

As per the plan, the brother-sister duo visited the fair where the boy had arrived with his grandparents. They allegedly befriended the grandfather and offered him food and liquor. After he became intoxicated, the accused abducted the minor boy and fled the spot.

The police analysed CCTV footage and based on the leads, Narasaiah was arrested, which subsequently led to the arrest of Shanthamery from her residence in Koramangala, after seven days.

The boy was rescued and reunited with his parents, Superintendent of Police K.V. Ashok said. He added that further investigation is under way. The police are also cross-verifying Shanthamery’s confession to verify her background and the motive behind the crime.
