Inter-State real estate firm Confident Group on Monday (February 9, 2026) exuded satisfaction over the police investigation into the alleged suicide of the company’s chairman C.J. Roy on January 30 during a search at his office by the Income Tax (I-T) officials. Addressing media here, the company’s managing director (MD) T.A. Joseph said the company did not face any harassment from I-T officials, which was widely reported as the reason behind Roy taking the extreme step. Claiming that the company had not done anything illegally, Mr. Joseph accused a section of online media of running a smear campaign against Roy after his death. “I-T department was only doing their job and there was no harassment by any officials. Had there been any harassment, we would have reacted accordingly,” Mr. Joseph said. He said he was not in a position to comment on why Roy killed himself and, in his knowledge, the latter did not have any financial, physical or family issues. Asked about Roy’s brother’s allegation that harassment by I-T department pushed the Confident Group chairman to suicide, Mr. Joseph said “it was an emotional outburst only.” On why Roy immediately withdrew a petition he had filed before the Karnataka High Court against I-T raids, Mr. Joseph said he only advised the late chairman to repeal the plea as he found there was no need of a clash with any government department. Mr. Joseph assured the company’s clients that Confident Group’s financial structure remained very strong and that the chairman’s death will not affect its projects. “Ours is a debt-free company with no external investors. The works on our projects have resumed in full swing,” he said. He also refuted reports that celebrities, including actor Mohanlal, had invested in the company. Joy J. Thuluvath, director project, and Shijitha Ullas, executive director, Confident Group also were present at the press meet.
