The Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry has requested Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take steps to establish the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Thiruvananthapuram. The Chamber noted that the State government has not submitted a proposal in this regard, which may result in Kerala losing this National Institute. It observed that the city offers an ideal ecosystem with its established Universities, research centres, medical institutions and growing Life-Sciences and Technology infrastructure. Setting up NIPER here would substantially enhance pharmaceutical research, promote industry-academia collaboration, create high-quality employment and attract investments to the State, said the chamber.
