A special team led by the Puthalapattu circle police in Chittoor district on Monday arrested a repeat offender in ganja cases, Mohan Babu (55), at Vaddipalle Cross on the Puthalapattu-Piler road.

Addressing the media, Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath and Circle-Inspector D. Gopi said that as per police records, the accused was in the “Most Wanted” list under various police stations in Andhra Pradesh, including Chittoor, East Godavari, and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts, in connection with the illegal sale and transport of ganja and cases related to the Gaming Act across the State. “He is wanted in as many as eight cases of ganja smuggling under Puthalapattu station limits,” the Deputy SP said.

A resident of Bandapalle village on the outskirts of Chittoor, Mohan Babu’s modus operandi was to procure the contraband from the north Andhra region and Odisha and sell the goods for a profit down south. “He kept evading the police for the last several years, and finally we nabbed him based on reliable information about his movements,” the Deputy SP said, adding that the accused would also be booked under the PD Act.
