The blueprint for the proposed Kannada Bhavan in Mandya is under preparation, Deputy Commissioner Kumar said, adding that a meeting was convened to discuss the design and planning of the facility, which aims to showcase the richness of Kannada language, literature, culture, and heritage.

The Kannada Bhavan is being proposed to commemorate the successful conduct of the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which was held in Mandya in December two years ago. The literary event turned out to be a grand success, fostering pride in the land and language, and received appreciation from across the State with the support of literary enthusiasts and the general public.

In order to preserve the memories of the Sammelana, elected representatives, literary personalities, and the people of Mandya district had expressed the need for a permanent structure in the form of a Kannada Bhavan. Accordingly, steps have been taken to construct the facility at a total cost of ₹5.50 crore, including ₹2.50 crore from surplus funds collected during the Sammelana from various sources and ₹3 crore provided under the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Programme.

The foundation stone for the Kannada Bhavan was laid on January 30. Subsequently, a meeting was held on February 7 to discuss the blueprint, architectural design, and other related aspects of the proposed building. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to ensure that the Kannada Bhavan is designed and constructed in a manner that reflects the glory of the Kannada language and its cultural heritage.
