The Federation of Coimbatore Apartment Owner’s Associations highlighted long-pending civic issues at its second annual general meeting held at Siruthuli Auditorium recently.

Former Minister Senthil Balaji, DMK functionaries Durai Senthamizh Selvan, Ravi, and Youth Wing secretary Rajiv Gandhi attended the meeting.

The federation said apartment residents continue to be denied basic civic services despite paying house tax, garbage tax and water deposits. Waste collection, outsourced to private firms, forces associations to pay additional charges. Despite each household paying a ₹10,000 water deposit, only 5–10 connections are provided for complexes with 50–300 flats, pushing residents to rely on borewells and RO plants.

The federation urged the Corporation to extend facilities provided on public streets, road laying, street lighting and sewage maintenance to apartment complexes as well. It reiterated its demand that the Corporation maintain lifts in multi-storey buildings or reduce house tax for upper-floor residents.

Following representations to Mr. Senthil Balaji, and subsequent discussions with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, the Corporation has begun garbage collection through its own vehicles and has invited applications for additional water connections.

The federation thanked the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the former Minister for the interventions. Federation president Kannan, vice-president Jayapal, secretary Senthilkumar, committee members and representatives from various apartment associations attended the meeting.
