Stalin at Polivakkam in Tiruvallur district on Monday, 2,677 workers in Thanjavur district stand to benefit from the scheme. According to an official release, 757 sanitation workers in Thanjavur Corporation, 591 in Kumbakonam Corporation, 96 in Thiruvaiyaru Municipality, 292 in Pattukottai Municipality, 108 in Adhiramapattinam Municipality, and 833 in 13 Town Panchayats in Thanjavur district will receive breakfast every day from November 9. The free meal scheme was one of the welfare schemes for conservancy workers launched by the State government last year. On Monday, Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan, Thanjavur MLA T.K.G. Neelamegam, Thanjavur Mayor S.Ramanathan and Collector B.Priyanka Pankajam had breakfast along with the free meal scheme beneficiaries in Thanjavur Corporation at the civic body’s Anna Thirumana Mandapam, Koullupettai Street, Kizhavasal. In Tiruvarur district, 811 sanitation workers serving in Tiruvarur (267 workers), Mannargudi (338), Thiruthuraipoondi (116), and Koothanallur (90) would be covered under the extended free meal scheme, sources said.
