DC Studios used the Super Bowl spotlight to unveil a new trailer for Supergirl, offering audiences their most revealing look yet at Milly Alcock’s take on Kara Zor-El and her early bond with Krypto the Superdog.

The Super Bowl trailer shifts focus away from Earth and back to Krypton, showing Kara’s life on her home planet before its destruction. In several striking moments, the footage depicts a younger Kara encountering Krypto for the first time, establishing an emotional connection that predates her arrival in Superman’s orbit. The scenes add new context to Kara’s brief appearance in Superman, where she was revealed as Krypto’s original owner.

Alcock, best known for House of the Dragon, plays a version of Supergirl who is far removed from the traditionally pristine superhero archetype. “He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth,” Kara says in one moment, drawing a clear contrast with her cousin Kal-El.

Director Craig Gillespie has previously described the film as an anti-hero story, emphasizing Kara’s internal struggles and moral complexity. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has echoed that sentiment, noting that Kara’s imperfections are central to the character’s appeal.

Supergirl is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, illustrated by Bilquis Evely, and adapted for the screen by Ana Nogueira. The story follows Kara on a violent, galaxy-spanning journey that pits her against Krem of the Yellow Hills, played in the film by Matthias Schoenaerts. Jason Momoa also appears as the fan-favorite anti-hero Lobo.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26 and forms a key part of DC Studios’ evolving cinematic slate. Alongside Supergirl, the studio has Clayface set for release later in the year and the HBO Max series Lanterns slated for late summer.
