Three fire tenders from the Bannimantap and Hebbal fire stations were rushed to the spot after the blaze was reported around 4 a.m. Firefighters battled for several hours to douse the flames. A large quantity of scrap material, including combustible items such as tyres, empty bottles, and boxes containing perfumes and paints, is believed to have fuelled the rapid spread of the fire. Regional Fire Officer Chandan said the blaze may have originated due to an ‘unscientific’ method used to extract copper by burning electric wires. The fire set to strip the wires is suspected to have spread across scrapyard godowns spread over nearly two acres of land near the Mysuru–Bengaluru highway. No loss of life has been reported. Police personnel assisted Fire and Emergency Services teams in firefighting operations.
