Rah-Veer Scheme to reward Good Samaritans with ₹25,000 and certificates for saving road accident victims

The Transport Department on Sunday stated that it would implement the Rah-Veer scheme across the State to encourage citizens to provide immediate assistance to road accident victims and help reduce fatalities. The move entails a cash incentive of ₹25,000 to those who save lives.

According to the scheme, people who come forward as “Good Samaritans “ and help save the life of an accident victim will be recognised and rewarded by the government. They will be called Rah-Veers and apart from the cash incentive, they will be given a certificate of appreciation.

The department said a circular had been issued to all District Collectors to constitute district-level committees so as to lay down the procedure for selection and ensure wide publicity of the initiative. Details of those who provide immediate assistance and shift victims to hospitals will be recorded by the police and hospital authorities, following which cases will be recommended to the district committee for scrutiny.

These committees will be headed by the concerned District Collector. They will forward approved names to the Transport Commissioner for release of the incentive.
