Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a full report by February 9 (Monday) on the incident of food poisoning in a tribal boys’ welfare hostel at Devarapalli in Polavaram district, and has ordered that proper care be taken of the inmates who have fallen sick.

Taking stock of their health condition on Sunday, Mr. Naidu said the District Collector should take departmental action against the officials and staff of the Tribal Welfare Departments concerned for dereliction of duty. He wanted the condition of the students to be monitored continuously and regular updates be given to the CMO.

Also, he instructed the officials concerned to set up a special medical camp at the hostel to screen the remaining students, and food and water samples collected for testing.

Officials told the Chief Minister that 92 students had taken ill after having breakfast on Saturday (February 7) morning. They had vomiting, stomach pain, fever, and diarrhea, and that the affected students were admitted to the area hospitals in Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram.
