Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin presided over the wedding of 10 couples in Chennai on February 8, 2026

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, on Sunday (February 8, 2026), inaugurated the ‘Mudhalvar Thirumana Maaligai’ (Chief Minister Marriage Hall), constructed with modern facilities at a cost of ₹13.56 crore on Waltax Road in Chennai.

He also presided over the weddings of 10 couples and presented them gift items. The new air-conditioned premises with other amenities was constructed using funds from the Greater Chennai Corporation, the MPLADS of Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran, and the MLALADS of Harbour MLA and Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the State government had earlier constructed marriage halls in the names of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. This was the first time a marriage hall was being opened in the name of the Chief Minister.

Listing several welfare measures rolled out by the DMK government since 2021, the Deputy Chief Minister said special focus had been given to North Chennai’s infrastructure development through the ‘Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam’. He said the total outlay for the scheme was ₹8,000 crore to transform North Chennai into a developed region.

Mr. Udhayanidhi also expressed confidence his party DMK would win the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and that the “next government will be Dravida Model 2.0.” Mr. Sekarbabu, Mr. Maran, Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya, MLAs, and officials participated.
