Kerala Muslim Jamaat district president Vadassery Hasan Musliar inaugurating a table talk at Malappuram on Saturday | Photo Credit: SAKEER HUSSAIN A table talk organised by the Kerala Muslim Jamaat district committee here on Saturday urged mainstream political parties to take the lead in reorganising districts in the State to address inequities in resource distribution. “Development and welfare schemes of the Union and State governments should be allocated in proportion to population. Yet, Malappuram district, with nearly five million residents, is not receiving its fair share,” the discussion pointed out. “The issue is not confined to Malappuram; several districts face similar disparities. Restructuring certain districts can help correct this imbalance,” said Muslim Jamaat district secretary K.P. Jamal Karulai while welcoming the participants. Senior scholar Syed K.K.S. Thangal Faizy presided over the session, which was inaugurated by district president Vadassery Hasan Musliar. The discussion was led by senior lawyer and rights activist P.A. Pouran. Other speakers included P. Shabeer, Noushad Mannissery, K.P.O. Rahmatullah, V.S. Joy, Abdul Wahab, Mujeeb Pullichola, and Tajudheen. District secretary A.P. Basheer Chellakodi moderated the discussion, and Shuaib Anakkayam proposed a vote of thanks.
