(KPTCL) will lay underground power cables in Ullal town and parts of Mangaluru city at a cost of ₹ 246 crore shortly, Speaker and Mangaluru MLA U.T. Khader said in Mangaluru on Saturday. Talking to reporters, Mr. Khader said cables will be laid in Ullal town by investing ₹ 186 crore, while in Mangaluru city, they will be laid at an estimated cost of ₹ 60 crore. Once the project is completed, it will relieve Ullal town from dangling power cables and enhance the beauty of the town. Bids have been invited to take up the project in the town and parts of the city. In addition, Mr. Khader said, the capacity of the power sub-station in Ullal will be enhanced from 33 Kv to 110 Kv, which will meet the demand of power for the town for about 30 years. Bids will be floated for this ₹ 96-crore project. Two bridges to be built The State Government has sanctioned ₹ 252 crore for constructing a bridge, across the Netravathi, between Kotepura in Ullal and Bolar Sea Face. This 1.5-km-long bridge will have a sea view bay to attract tourists. The Government has also approved construction of a bridge, across the Netravathi, between Sajipa and Thumbe. This bridge will benefit Arkula, Meramajalu and Thumbe residents. Presently, people from Sajipa are taking circuitous route via Melkar and Bantwal to reach Thumbe. The two bridges will be constructed by the Public Works Department. Bids will be invited shortly for the two bridge projects. On the bad condition of main road between Mudipu and Bakrabailu, Mr. Khader said the stretch is being repaired now and storm water drians are being constructed at a cost of ₹ 3 crore. The foundation stones for construction of Abbakka Bhavan in Thokkottu and Beary Bhavan in Konaje will be laid shortly. The Government recently sanctioned ₹ 8 crore and ₹ 6 crore for building Abbakka Bhavan and Beary Bhavan, respectively, he said. A Kannada Bhavan will be constructed on 50 cents of land in Tiruvail village. The Government has sanctioned this land for Mangaluru Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mr. Khader said.
