A woman was found in possession of marijuana worth ₹5.7 lakh by the Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone team, along with SR Nagar police on February 6.

The accused has been identified as Rinita Raita, 30, a farmer from Kesariguda village in Gajapati district of Odisha.

Police said she was acting as a peddler. During the operation, officers seized 11.4 kg of dry marijuana and a mobile phone from her possession.

According to the police, the woman told investigators that her family was facing financial hardship as her husband worked as a daily wage farmer and her own income from construction labour was insufficient.

She allegedly came into contact with her cousin, Maniel Dalabehera of Patangapadar village in Odisha, who is suspected to be involved in selling marijuana in Hyderabad and Rangareddy.

Police said she contacted him last week seeking work, following which he allegedly asked her to accompany him to Hyderabad to sell the contraband. Acting on specific information, the Task Force team detained her and handed her over to SR Nagar police for further action.
