The Ernakulam Rural police have initiated steps to prevent conflict between residents and migrant labourers in Perumbavoor following a rise in the drug menace in the area. K.S. Sudarshan, District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural), held a meeting with residents on Friday (February 6, 2026) and assured action against offenders involved in the drug trade and other illegal activities. He also warned of strict action against vigilante activities by residents. “A decision to form a joint committee led by the police, involving residents and the Excise department, to address the issue would be taken soon,” he said. Mr. Sudarshan said people forming small committees of their own to act on law and order issues would not be tolerated. The meeting came against the backdrop of incidents in Kandanthara, known as ‘Bhai Colony’ due to its dense migrant population. In the latest incident, a group of residents there had allegedly assaulted migrant workers, accusing them of selling drugs. The person who led the alleged attack was arrested after the Perumbavoor police found no evidence against the migrants who were assaulted.
