The Central Zone police, which is probing into the suspicious death of PG doctor B. Deepika (27), have sent her viscera samples and mobile phone to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

Dr. Deepika, a native of Anantapur, who was pursuing PG in anaesthesiology in Government General Hospital (GGH), Vijayawada, and living in the government hostel, died while she was on-duty in the early hours on Thursday.

“We handed over the body of the PG doctor to her family members. Further investigation is on,” said Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Damodar.

“A case under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, has been registered,” the ACP told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja visited the GGH on Friday and enquired with hospital Superintendent Dr. A.Y. Rao, and other doctors about the death.

“The Women’s Commission interacted with other PG medicos in the hostel, and the on-duty doctors, and enquired about the reasons for the tragic incident. Instructions have been issued to the police to conduct a fair investigation in the case,” Ms. Sailaja said.

The Women’s Commission will extend all possible support to Dr. Deepika’s family and render justice to them, she added.
