Criminal cases were registered against 24 two-wheeler riders for wrong-route driving during a special enforcement drive conducted by Cyberabad traffic police in Madhapur on Friday. The drive was carried out along the 100-feet road, Cyber Towers, COD junction, Durgam Cheruvu and the Mindspace stretch under the Madhapur Traffic police station limits. Officials said the operation was aimed at curbing the growing menace of motorists flouting traffic rules and endangering other road users. Madhapur Traffic Inspector A. Sridhar Kumar noted that until now, police had been issuing challans for such violations, but many commuters were taking the offence lightly. “Wrong-route driving has become a serious safety concern. Despite repeated penalties, violations continued. As per the Commissioner’s orders, we have now started booking criminal cases to act as a stronger deterrent,” he said.
