The sluice gates of Thoppayar dam were opened for irrigation here in Nallampalli. The water of Thoppayar reservoir will irrigate a total of 5,330 acres in both Dharmapuri and Salem districts. In Dharmapuri district, 2050 acres will be irrigated and in Salem district, 3,280 acres will be irrigated. Thoppur and Kammampatti villages of Dharmapuri, and Sekkarapatti, Vellar, Thettigiripatti, and Mallikundam villages of Salem will be irrigated. The dam water will be released for 48 days as turn system with four days of irrigation and eight days of break. Earlier, opening the sluice gates of the dam, Collector R. Sadheesh urged farmers to use the water judiciously and that the water will not be released beyond the specified period.
