The authorities informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that a new building for the government hospital at Ayakudi in Palani in Dindigul district is being constructed and the old building has been demolished.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition filed in 2024 that had sought a direction to the authorities to demolish the damaged portion of the government hospital and construct a new building.

The petitioner R. Krishnan of Ayakudi said that the hospital with a capacity of 50 beds was constructed more than 70 years ago.

As the building was in a dilapidated condition, patients were shifted to an adjacent building attached to the present hospital building, he said.

A representation was made in 2022 to demolish the damaged hospital building and construct a new one on a war footing, he said.

Taking into account that a new hospital building is being constructed, a Division Bench of Justices G. Jayachandran and K.K. Ramakrishnan disposed of the petition.
