Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the National Democratic Alliance’s election rally in Madurai on March 1 instead of February 28.

During an informal chat with the reporters here on Friday, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran said the recently held NDA’s election rally at Madurantakam “was an overwhelming success” and hence, the Madurai rally was being organised on March 1 instead of February 28 to ensure the resounding victory of the NDA candidates.

Criticising the DMK government, he said the ruling party, which fulfilled its poll promise of giving monthly honorarium of ₹1,000 to women only four years after coming to power in 2021, did not give cash for ‘Pongal’ for two successive years, gave the cash assistance of ₹ 3,000 only in 2026 as Assembly election was fast approaching.

“In this line, the DMK has stashed ₹20 crore in each Assembly constituency to purchase voters, who are agitated over the deteriorating law and order in Tamil Nadu. Ganja is being seized from the bag of a Plus One student. Hence, the Tamil Nadu voters will never support the DMK,” Mr. Nagenthran said.

Asserting that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had presented a “beautiful Budget,” the BJP leader denounced the maiden speech of actor Kamalhaasan in the Rajya Sabha, who had criticised Ms. Nirmala’s earlier observation in Parliament on learning Tamil alone.

“She had only quoted E.V. Ramasamy’s observation on learning Tamil alone and said nothing against Tamil,” he said.
