The water release into the Kalingarayan Canal, which was earlier scheduled to be stopped on March 9, has been extended till March 25.

According to officials, water was released into the canal for 120 days, from November 10, 2025, to March 9, 2026, for the second irrigation season, following a government order issued for the purpose. During the consultation meetings and the farmers’ grievance redressal day chaired by the District Collector, farmers’ associations submitted several demands regarding the extension and regulation of water supply.

Taking these representations into consideration, the district administration has decided to stop the release of water to the Kalingarayan Canal from March 25, 2026. However, water will continue to be supplied to tail-end farmers till March 31, 2026, officials said.

In a press release, the executive engineer, Lower Bhavani Basin Division, said the decision was taken keeping in mind farmers’ requirements and overall water management priorities.
