Panic gripped residents of Neithalapuram village near Thalavadi, after a leopard attacked a calf late on Thursday night. Chandrakumar, a local resident, had tied his cattle in a cowshed located in front of his house. A leopard that strayed out of the nearby forest area entered the cowshed and attacked a calf in the night. Hearing the calf’s cries, Mr. Chandrakumar rushed to the spot and was shocked to find the leopard attacking the animal. After he raised an alarm, the leopard fled the area. The incident has triggered fear among villagers, who are concerned about the safety of people and livestock. The residents have urged the Forest Department to immediately place a cage and capture the leopard to prevent further attacks.
