The Coimbatore Corporation has collected ₹352 crore in property tax so far in the 2025–26 financial year, against a target of ₹521.6 crore. The total tax demand stands at ₹656.21 crore, which includes arrears of ₹134 crore.

The officials said that tax collection has been stepped up as the civic body is preparing to present its annual Budget earlier than usual. While property tax is normally collected until the end of March, the Budget is likely to be tabled on February 16 this year in view of the impending elections.

The Corporation has begun issuing notices to defaulters and is sending reminders through mobile phone calls. Revenue officials have also been instructed to identify regular taxpayers and follow up with timely reminders to ensure prompt payment.

Officials from the Revenue Department said that once election dates are announced, several staff involved in tax collection will be deployed for election-related duties, affecting routine revenue work. In view of this, bill collectors have been asked to expedite collections in the coming weeks.
