Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun on Friday (February 6, 2026) rewarded 70 police officers, personnel, and ministerial staff who had performed their duties with distinction.

Among them was Inspector of Police, Chit Fund and Money Lending Investigation Wing, S. Gomathi, for the recovery of property worth ₹52 crore. The officer registered a case regarding an alleged attempt to grab the property belonging to a person named Asif Iqbal of Kayar village, Chengalpattu district.

The accused persons, including Subash Chand Jain and three others, had extended a loan of ₹4 crore and, instead of executing a mortgage deed, obtained a sale deed, thereafter refusing to return the documents and attempting to usurp the property. Appropriate legal action was initiated against the accused, and searches were conducted at their offices and residences, during which relevant documents were seized.

Another officer who was commended was Inspector of Police, Central Crime Branch, Land Grabbing Investigation Wing, A. Arun, who had arrested Kamalakannan (45) of Kodungaiyur, Chennai, in Bengaluru. The accused was involved in about 13 criminal cases, wherein he impersonated others, grabbed properties using forged documents, and fraudulently obtained money from banks.

The Inspector of Police, Central Crime Branch, Forged Documents Investigation Wing, J. Gokul Krishnan, along with Sub-Inspector P. Meena, arrested the prime accused in a case involving the preparation of forged documents and the grabbing of properties worth ₹2 crore in the Madipakkam area.

During the operation, rubber stamps, forged documents, and related equipment were seized, and further legal action was taken.
