Two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Gururaja Poojari rode on his better clean and jerk performance to total 269kg and beat reigning Commonwealth championships gold medallist Ch. Rishikanta Singh by three kg for the men’s 60kg title at the National weightlifting championships in Modinagar on Thursday. Poojari lifted 150kg in clean and jerk, while Rishikanta managed 147kg.

The results (winners only): Men: Elite: 60kg: Gururaja Poojari (Kar) snatch 119kg, clean and jerk 150kg, total 269kg; Junior: 60kg: Chera Tania (Aru) 110kg, 143kg, 253kg; Youth: 60kg: Subrat Naik (Odi) 107kg, 125kg, 232kg; 56kg: Dharma Jyoti Dewgharia (SSCB) 103kg, 127kg, 230kg.
