A target of 70 metric tonnes has been set for the procurement of black gram in Kanniyakumari district during the kharif season 2025-2026, with farmers urged to sell their produce with the Minimum Support Price (MSP), notified by the government.

According to a press statement issued by the district administration, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has been designated as nodal agency, the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board as the State-level coordinator and regulated market in Vadasery, under the Kanniyakumari Market Committee as the primary procurement centre in the district to procure black gram at MSP of ₹78 per kilogram, as notified by the government.

As per the NAFED guidelines, the Fair Average Quality (FAQ) of the black gram include a maximum of 2% of foreign matter, 3% of highly damaged pulse, 4% of slightly damaged pulse, 3% of immature pulse, 12% of moisture content and 4% of beetle or insect affected pulse, per 100 kg of black gram.

To benefit through the scheme, farmers are required to register at the Vadasery regulated market with documents including aadhar identity card, original chitta, black gram cultivation area declaration signed by Village Administrative Officer, photocopy of bank passbook and other relevant documents. The ongoing procurement will be conducted until the upcoming March 25.
