A youth was hacked to death here on Wednesday night. Police said C. Jothi Murugan, 30, son of former Sankarankovil municipality councillor Jayalakshmi from Ramasamypuram here, was running a hotel on Railway Feeder Road in Sankarankovil. When he was speaking with his friends near a marriage hall on Railway Feeder Road on Wednesday night, Jothi Murugan received a phone call. While speaking with the caller over the phone, Jothi Murugan was walking away from the friends, who left the spot to buy something from a nearby shop. When Jothi Murugan was alone, unidentified persons, who came to the spot on bikes, hacked him to death on the spot. Even as the Sankarankovil Town police sent the body for a post-mortem, Superintendent of Police, Tenkasi G.S. Madhavan arrived at the spot and formed special teams to nab the assailants. During investigation, police found that Jothi Murugan was facing a few cases against him and suspect that he could have been murdered due to prior enmity.
