The memorandum was submitted by a delegation led by district vice-president Shiva Ashtagi who said that the university, which once enjoyed academic prominence in the Kalyana Karnataka region, has in the recent years gained attention for “financial irregularities and mismanagement” rather than academic achievements. According to the memorandum, the university is facing multiple issues, including examination-related “irregularities”, high fee structures, nepotism, harassment of students in various departments, “irregularities” in the examination wing and prolonged delay in declaring B.Ed results and M.Com third and fourth semester results, even after more than a year of the exam. The youth wing also flagged unfilled vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, “irregularities” involving outsourced staff and the impact of Lokayukta raids and multiple investigations on the institution’s reputation. The memorandum stated that these issues have led to a decline in student admissions and are adversely affecting the academic future of students from economically weaker sections of the region. It blamed what it termed a “deteriorating administrative system” for the situation and urged the university administration to take corrective measures in the interest of students. Warning of intensified agitation if the issues are not addressed, Mr. Ashtagi said that the BJP Yuva Morcha will be compelled to launch protests involving thousands of students to demand action against those responsible for the “irregularities”. State executive committee member Preetham Patil, city district vice-president Sourabh Rangadal, secretary Gopalakrishna Kulkarni and leaders Mallikarjun Rayappagouda, Nijagunagouda Yalagod, among others, were present when the memorandum was submitted.
