A boundary wall will be built around the main campus of the University of Calicut (CU) to address the safety concerns of the students and the staff. A sum of ₹5.3 crore was allocated for the purpose at a high-powered committee meeting of the university Syndicate attended by Vice-Chancellor (V-C) P. Raveendran recently. Official sources said that the campus at present does not have a boundary wall. There have been frequent safety-related complaints because of this. Stray dog menace, activities of the drug mafia, and dumping of waste into the campus have all been reported. Officials who attended the meeting pointed out that it was becoming difficult to stop the entry of unauthorised people into the campus, and that anti-social activities were reportedly rampant there. The V-C stressed the need to address these concerns, and the proposal to build the boundary wall was cleared. A supervisory committee would be formed to ensure that the construction is completed within a time frame, the sources added.
