Maratha Day was observed at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) in Belagavi on Wednesday in which several serving officers, junior commissioned officers, officers of other ranks and veterans took part and paid homage to martyrs.

Commandant Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Sharqat War Memorial.

President of the Family Welfare Organisation Mrinalini Mukherjee and other eminent personalities were present.

The programme also comprised a Barakhana and featured a high standard of martial arts, followed by a cultural musical performance.

As part of Maratha Day, an exercise, Pehla Kadam, was conducted at Turkamatti for Agniveers in which 547 Agniveers participated from February 2 to 4.

This apart, 543 more Agniveers will take part in the exercise which will conclude on Saturday.
