Mirzapur: The Movie, the big-screen continuation of the hit Prime Video series, will release in theatres worldwide on September 4, the makers announced on Thursday. Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment confirmed the release date by unveiling a new poster that features a convoy of SUVs cutting through a winding highway, evoking the franchise’s trademark mix of power, menace and inevitability. Sharing the announcement online, the makers wrote, “Ab dekhiye bhaukaal bade parde par. Watch #MirzapurTheMovie releasing at your nearest theatres on 4th September.” The film picks up after the events of season three and brings back several fan-favourite characters who have come to define the Mirzapur universe. Ali Fazal returns as Guddu Bhaiya, while Pankaj Tripathi reprises his iconic role as Kaleen Bhaiya. The ensemble also includes Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sonal Chauhan, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Pramod Pathak and Anangsha Biswas. Jitendra Kumar joins the cast in a new role, while Vikrant Massey, who appeared in the first season, does not feature in the film. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the Excel Entertainment banner, with Amazon MGM Studios backing the project. The shoot recently wrapped, and the film is currently in post-production. Set in the lawless heartland town of Mirzapur, the franchise has become synonymous with stories of crime, ambition and revenge. With Mirzapur: The Movie, the makers are expanding the world of the series onto the big screen, marking a rare theatrical extension of a major Indian OTT property. The Mirzapur series itself has also been renewed for a fourth season.
