A 32-year-old man was killed and his friend seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a lorry carrying iron rods on the Vadapalani 100-Feet Road in the city late on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as V. Gopal, also known as Mohana Krishnan, a resident of Choolaimedu and functionary of DMK Youth Wing in Ward 106. The injured man was identified as S. Kesavan, 23, also a resident of Choolaimedu.

According to the police, while attempting to overtake the lorry laden with iron rods from Manali towards Puducherry, the rider lost control of the motorcycle. Both men fell on the road, and Mohana Krishnan came under the front wheel of the lorry suffering fatal injuries. Kesavan sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

Personnel from the Pondy Bazaar Traffic Investigation Police reached the spot, recovered Mohana Krishnan’s body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. The lorry driver, S. Sudhakar, 48, a resident of Sithamoor near Tindivanam in Villupuram district, was arrested for further inquiry.
