Residents and members of the Environment Awareness and Protection Association participated in a walkathon on Saturday to raise awareness about protection of Sembakkam and Nanmangalam lake. M. Ravi, secretary, Sri Sarvamangala Nagar Residents Association, said about 300 participants, including students and members of various residents’ associations in Chitlapakkam took part in the walkathon for 3 km. Sewage is released through various channels and stormwater drains into Sembakkam lake. Elected representatives have assured people that efforts are in progress to cover the areas with underground sewerage network and arrest pollution in the lake.
