A burns unit to cater to adult patients was launched on the Cantonment premises of Kauvery Hospital in Tiruchi on Saturday.

According to an official press release, hospital’s managing director Manivannan Selvaraj and executive director D. Senguttuvan inaugurated the unit. Smitha Segu, head, Department of Plastic Surgery, Bangalore Medical College, and Angeline Selvaraj, head, Department of Plastic Surgery, ESI Hospital Chennai, were present.

In his address, Dr. Senguttuvan highlighted the internal cooperation that was needed among various hospital departments.

Special features of the facility include an integrated operating theatre, attached ICU, step down units with restricted access, and maximum sterility to prevent cross infection.

A hotline to spread awareness and to speed up access to the facility across the delta region is being planned.

An awareness programme on burns care is being planned as a Continuing Medical Education orientation on February 1, said the release.

A separate unit to treat paediatric burns patients is functional at the Maa Kauvery Hospital.
