Seven persons, including four international passengers arriving from Bangkok, were arrested after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 27.15 kgs of hydroponic weed valued at around ₹9.5 crore at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. Acting on intelligence inputs from DRI’s Hyderabad and Chennai zonal units, officers mounted surveillance at the airport’s arrival area in the early hours of Saturday (January 30, 2026). At around 1.15 a.m., four Indian passengers who had landed from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight were intercepted along with three associates while they were in the process of collecting and handing over their checked-in baggage. An examination of the trolley bags belonging to the passengers led to the recovery of several concealed packets containing the contraband. Field testing using a narcotic drug detection kit confirmed the substance to be ganja. The entire consignment was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and all seven persons involved were taken into custody under the same Act. Further investigation is underway.
