New Aruppukottai West By-pass Road which was opened for public use on Friday.

Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, on Friday, inaugurated the newly-laid portion of Aruppukkottai West Bypass Road that would directly connect Virudhunagar with Tiruchuli Road and Madurai-Thoothukudi highway without the vehicles having to go through the congested roads of Aruppukottai town.

The 9.1-km-long road has been constructed at a cost of ₹154.99 crore under the Integrated Road Infrastructure Development Programme (IRIDP) 2022–2023.

The Minister threw the road for public usage in presence District Collector N.O. Sukhaputra.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramachandran said that Chief Minister has been implementing various projects to improve and expand road infrastructure to ensure road safety.

Long-felt demand

The bypass road was a long-pending demand of the people of Aruppukottai town due to traffic congestion on the arterial roads during peak hour traffic that caused inconvenience to the students and office-goers.

“We had promised to address this issue during the Assembly election, and now a part of the Aruppukottai West By-pass has been opened for public use,” he said.

A total of ₹154.99 crore was sanctioned for the project, including ₹119.50 crore for the construction work and ₹35.40 crore for land acquisition.

Except for the road overbridge all the works have been completed and the works is expected to get over within few months, he added.

The portion of road between the new roundabout on Virudhunagar-Aruppukottai Road and Madurai-Thoothukudi highway was now open to public use.

The two-way road has a carriage way of 10 metres with hard shoulders on both sides.

Mr. Ramachandran said that the works of new bus stand at Aruppukottai has been completed and it would soon be opened.

Aruppukkottai Revenue Divisional Officer Marimuthu, Highways engineers were present.
