With the Thai Poosam festival scheduled for February 1, Councillors have urged the authorities to provide dedicated walking paths, drinking water pandals and adequate rest rooms for devotees on padayatra, during the Dindigul Corporation Council meeting held on Friday.

The meeting was presided over by Dindigul Mayor J. Ilamathi, Corporation Commissioner M. Senthil Murugan and Deputy Mayor S. Rajappa. A total of 62 resolutions were passed in the meeting.

BJP councillor G. Dhanabalan referring to work on the new bus stand in Dindigul said while the project was welcome, people had expressed concern over the location due to sanitation issues. He also raised a query as to whether the environment clearance had been obtained for the project. The officials said the project had commenced and issues pertaining to the environmental clearance will be examined.

Dindigul North Zone Chairperson R. Anand said there was a shortage of sanitary workers in the Corporation areas. It had impacted the cleanliness of these areas, he added. The officials said the issue would be looked into.

DMK Councillor M. Powmidha Parveen urged the authorities to provide dedicated walking paths, drinking water pandals, adequate rest rooms and other facilities for devotees during Thai Poosam.

During the meeting, Corporation Commissioner Senthil Murugan urged the Councillors to cooperate with the officials during the process of modernising urban land records in all wards which was being done using drone and GIS technology to create accurate geographical data.

The Councillors urged the authorities to take necessary steps and ensure that ramps and wheelchairs are provided in government offices and other public places for safe and hassle free entry of differently abled persons.
