In a bid to improve sewerage infrastructure in the rapidly growing Nanakramguda, Financial District, and Gachibowli corridors, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy has instructed officials to prepare a mini sewerage master plan tailored to current and future needs. The directive on Friday came after detailed inspections of these areas on the orders of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He asked officials to present data on existing sewage generation and infrastructure, including current sewer lines and treatment capacity. During the inspection, Mr. Reddy emphasised the need to develop sewerage extensions and trunk mains capable of handling future growth based on projected expansion up to 2047. He also stressed collecting and studying information on existing drains, rainwater canals, and trunk mains to design effective networks that prevent sewage from entering stormwater channels and causing pollution to the Musi and nearby tanks. He urged for coordinated work of operations and STP departments with focus on assessing the capacity of the Nanakramguda STP catchment and exploring feasibility to increase treatment capacity or build new facilities as required. Proposals are to be submitted for trunk mains to transfer sewage from Gachibowli and adjacent areas to the Kokapet STP, with plans to divert flows below Kokapet to the Chitrapuri and Ibrahim Cheruvu STPs. The officials also called for the development of a digital application to monitor sewage treatment data across all STPs.
