A guide for paramedics published by the ECG and Echo Club of Tiruchi was released during a special programme recently. According to an official press release, M. Thangavel, District Collector of Karur, released the book, titled ECG – a Primer for Paramedics at a function hosted by the local chapter of Indian Medical Association on January 25 in Karur. The first copy was received by club president M.S. Ashraf. The ECG (Electrocardiogram) and ECHO (Ecocardiography) Club was started by M. Chenniappan, a senior cardiologist of Tiruchi, 30 years ago to teach doctors about basics of the diagnostic tests. For the past few years, the club has extended its activity in teaching paramedics and nursing staff on basic cardiac resuscitation skills and basics of ECG. Since paramedics are often the first point of contact for patients and their prompt recognition of life-threatening ECGs and giving first aid to the patient will go a long way in saving a patient’s life, said the statement.
