Mr. Shetty said that the 20 Kambalas are being held regularly since more than 10 years. Organising each Kambala requires an investment ranging between ₹20 lakh and ₹40 lakh. The government issued an order releasing the fund on January 28, he said. Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has released the funds to its district offices in Mangaluru and Udupi, as an incentive to Kambala organising committees, Mr. Shetty said on January 30. From the funds, 16 Kambalas in Dakshina Kannada will get ₹32 lakh, and four Kambalas in Udupi district will get ₹ 8 lakh. The Kambala Committees chosen for the grant are Mulky Seeme Arasu — Dakshina Kannada Aikala Bava — Dakshina Kannada Thiruvail-Vamanjoor — Dakshina Kannada Koti-Chennaya of Moodbidri — Dakshina Kannada Lava-Kusha of Naringana — Dakshina Kannada Veera-Vikrama of Hokkadigoli — Dakshina Kannada Muduru-Paduru of Bantwal — Dakshina Kannada Rama-Lakshmana of Mangaluru — Dakshina Kannada Jaya-Vijaya of Jeppinamogaru — Dakshina Kannada Soorya-Chandra of Venoor — Dakshina Kannada Sathya-Dharma of Kakkepadavu — Dakshina Kannada Shesha Naga of Ballamanja — Dakshina Kannada Kariya-Boliya of Balakunja — Dakshina Kannada Muduru-Adduru of Gurupura — Dakshina Kannada Soorya-Chandra of Bangadi — Dakshina Kannada Veera-Vikrama of Kodange — Dakshina Kannada Lava-Kusha of Miyar — Udupi district Moodu-Padu of Katpady — Udupi district Koti-Chennaya of Adve (Nandikoor) — Udupi district Soorya-Chandra of Baradibeedu — Udupi district Plastic-free Kambala Koti-Chennaya Jodukare Kambala Samithi has decided to make its Kambala plastic-free. The Kambala is to be held in Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district on January 31. According to the organising committee, traders putting up shops have been instructed to serve food only in plantain leaves, or other leaves used to serve food, or steel plates. They have been instructed not to use disposable plates and cups. There will be a kiosk for drinking water. Use of plastic water bottles will be discouraged in the premises of the Kambala. The Town Municipal Council of Moodbidri and voluntary organisations will join hands to make the event a plastic-free Kambala.
