The Chennai police have arrested three men on charges of sexually assaulting a woman at the canteen of the Government Arts and Science College in Nandanam. The accused have been identified as Muthuselvam, Gunasekaran, and Selvam’s friend Karthikeyan.

The incident came to light after the woman filed a complaint on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) with the One Stop Centre of the Social Welfare Department.

According to the complaint, the 20-year-old woman from Ariyalur district was sexually assaulted by Muthuselvam, who ran a canteen on the college campus, along with Gunasekaran and Karthikeyan, at multiple locations, including the canteen, other parts of the campus, and a lodge. While Gunasekaran worked as a cook at the canteen, Karthikeyan was an auto-rickshaw driver.

Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Saidapet All Women Police Station.

Muthuselvam had been operating the college canteen for 12 years under a direct contractual agreement with the institution.

The woman received medical treatment and counselling. Muthuselvam, Gunasekaran, and Karthikeyan were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The police are continuing an intensive investigation into the case. According to them, Selvam reportedly took advantage of the woman’s personal circumstances and entered into a relationship with her. His friend Karthikeyan later became aware of this, promised her financial support, and also developed a relationship with her. Gunasekaran also made sexual advances towards her and abused her multiple times, she said in her complaint.
