KARIMNAGAR The intense competition among the aspirants of Congress tickets in the poll-bound Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) has made the candidates selection process challenging for the party leadership. Sources said that around 400 party leaders and cadres have applied for the party tickets from 66 divisions in the KMC. The District Congress Committee (DCC) has drawn up plans to wrest the KMC from the BRS to retain its hold over the civic body in the political nerve centre of north Telangana. Sources said that some new entrants into the party are also vying for the party tickets in some key divisions making the competition for party tickets more intense. Dozens of local Congress leaders and cadre are aspiring to contest by highlighting their relentless services to the party through thick and thin for decades. They are insisting that seniority and loyalty alongside the winning prospects be considered as the main criterion for the candidates’ selection process, party insiders said. Meanwhile, Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar held a meeting with the key party functionaries and ticket aspirants at Indira Bhavan in Karimnagar on Wednesday. The party’s civic poll strategy, candidates’ selection through surveys based on winning prospects in adherence to “Select and Elect” mode and municipal election campaign strategies were discussed threadbare at the meeting, sources added. The meeting resolved to highlight the Congress government’s flagship welfare schemes and development initiatives and work together for the victory of the party nominees in February 11 civic polls to KMC and other civic bodies in the combined Karimnagar district.
