Minister for Ports V.N.Vasavan told the Assembly on Wednesday that the State government is making vigorous efforts to develop the port lands under the Kerala Maritime Board, maritime logistics and maritime industry with private participation. The government is also taking steps to develop the Kollam and Beypore ports under the Kerala Maritime Board with private participation. Port operation and development is a highly competitive sector that requires huge investment and can only survive if changing technologies are used effectively. Since the development of the Vizhinjam International Seaport with private participation has been a great success, the government is examining the proposal of the Kerala Maritime Board to develop the non-major ports of Kollam and Beypore ports under the Kerala Maritime Board with private participation, he said.
