Pastors’ body decries attacks on churches in Telangana

HYDERABAD

Telangana United Christians and Pastors Association (TUCPA) has expressed concern at the ongoing attacks on churches and other religious structures in the State.

The TUCPA General Secretary Goneh Solomon Raj said on Wednesday that in January alone six places of Christian worship were targetted in Wanaparthy Town, Daulatabad, Ghatkesar, Jankampet near Narsapur in Medak district, Salkapur in Ghanpur mandal of Wanaparthy district and Hathnoora of Sangareddy district.

Stating that pastors and people praying in the churches were abused by alleged right-wing activists and assaulted and the premises desecrated, Mr. Solomon Raj urged the police to view these incidents seriously and initiate action against the persons behind this. He reminded the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to enact a legislation in the coming assembly session to curb religious hatred and punish those, who abused other religions.

A meeting of clergy from the Baptist, Mennonite Brethern, Methodist, Wesley, Lutheran and other independent churches denominations was organised to condemn the attacks.
